Electronic Gift Card Startup CashStar Raises $15M

CashStar, the company behind the Starbucks, Best Buy, and Aeropostale’s electronic payment and gift card system, announced that it raised $15 million for its series D round.

The company, created by Coupons.com founder and CEO Steven Boal, partnered with LivingSocial in 2012 for a Starbucks campaign to boost the coffee giant’s sales for its fourth quarter. The result was a Guinness World Record for LivingSocial, thanks to $10 Starbucks cards sold for $5 — with sales peaking at 400 cards per second.
